Bérenger Recoules

Rennes 2 University [Rennes]

Bérenger Recoules is an artist located in Nantes. He is a sound designer and creates scenery out of sound.

His era of specialization is the transformation of locations into sound creations and the thought of how sounds create emotions to different publics. The location itself does not really matter as long as it offers the appropriate material for the audience to really embrace the sound atmosphere of the environment innovatively and differently.

The University of Rennes 2 is the largest public research University of Western France in Liberal Arts, Health and Human Sciences. Driven by its attractiveness, 210,000 students are enrolled in 130 different degrees, some of them undertaking distance-learning courses.

March 2013 Bérenger Recoules, along with students enrolled in Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Music, did several series of audio recording. He then presented his look on the University through the different encounters and sounds he recorded. His work has been remastered by the students involved in the project. From those recordings, Bérenger Recoules created a web application that allows the user to discover different parts of the campus, to stream the sounds endlessly and even to change them through audio filters.

This residency received support from Rennes Métropole and The University of Rennes 2.
